President and Chief Operating Officer

Manish Desai has served as our President since July 2017 and our Chief Operating Officer since 2021.

Mr. Desai joined Brookfield from Oaktree in 2021 upon our adviser transition from Oaktree to Brookfield.

As a Managing Director, his responsibilities include acquisitions, dispositions, capital markets activity, asset management and all aspects of portfolio management for Brookfield REIT.

Prior to joining Brookfield, Mr. Desai spent over 17 years at Oaktree as a senior member of the investment team responsible for investment and management of its real estate funds, with a focus on corporate transactions. He worked with a number of Oaktree’s real estate portfolio companies and has served on the board of directors of STORE Capital Corp. and International Market Centers, Inc. (both specialty REITs). Prior to joining Oaktree, Mr. Desai served as an analyst for Morgan Stanley’s real estate investment strategies from 2001 to 2003, where he was involved in several advisory assignments, including the spin-off and restructuring of Fairmont Hotels, as well as the evaluation of numerous properties and portfolios for acquisition.

Mr. Desai holds a B.A. in Public Policy with a secondary major in Economics from Stanford University.
